OVERVIEW
The Cricket Changemakers is a Youth Participatory Action Research project in Eastern Nepal.
Conducted as part of a UKRI MRC funded PhD project at the Liverpool School of Tropical Medicine, the project is coordinated by Sara Begg and embedded in the Nepal Cricket Foundation's "Cricket for Equality" project.

The aim of the the project is to transform gendered health inequalities by working with youth cricketers to identify a specific area for change, investigate that area for change, design an intervention to achieve change, and evaluate the impact of that intervention.
The Cricket Changemakers is a project 5 years in the making. Emerging from work first conceptualised by Cricket Without Boundaries, the research tools used in the project have been developed over a number of years alongside a host of collaborators and partners.

The project in Nepal is the first that brings together these game and play-based participatory methods into a full project cycle, with youth at the heart of the process as co-researchers.
YOUTH PARTICIPATORY ACTION RESEARCH
Participatory Action Research is a cyclical approach to implementation research that engages members of the affected community as co-researchers.

In the Cricket Changemakers, the research team will be made up of adolescents playing cricket in government schools in Nepal, who have been introduced to cricket through the Nepal Cricket Foundation's Cricket for Equality programme.

Through a series of workshops, the Cricket Changemakers will develop the skills to conduct research, plan action for change, evaluate the impact of that action, and share our findings with a wider audience.
We will be using cricket throughout the research project, as a tool for research and data collection, engagement with the wider community including policy makers, and ultimately as a vehicle for change.
PROJECT LOCATION
There will be three teams of Cricket Changemakers. One in each of Dhankuta district, Morang district (Biratnagar), and Saptari district (Rajbiraj and Kalayampur).
